A chiropractic visit and light exercise relieves neck pain better than pain medication, new research shows.
The new study compares various treatments for neck pain, a condition that affects most people at some time duringin their lives.
The study, published in the Annals of Internal Medicine, found that chiropractic is better than taking prescribed medications like ibuprofen, aspirin or narcotics.
Dr. Bronfort, one of the authors of the study and research professor at Northwestern Health Sciences University in Minnesota, said, “Even a year later, there were differences between the spinal manipulation and medication groups.”
Neck pain is one of the most frequent reasons for trips to primary care doctors--millions, each year, visit for that reason. Dr. Bronfort was inspired to carry out an analysis because so little research exists.
